The latest Gajim in Debian Stable is 0.11.4. How old is that version?
Does it support STARTTLS? We've had reports of login problems with the
new server software at jabber.org (including disabling of port 5223).

Thanks!

Peter

It does, but it is horribly old and buggy - there even is a known bug
in the idle queue of incoming stanzas that can lead to message losses.

Asterix, maybe we should release a 0.11.5 with my fix as Debian Stable
does not want to update to newer versions? It should be easy to
backport it if we just take the diff from back when I fixed it, the
idle queue was pretty much the same back then to what we still have in
0.11.4.

Gajim 0.11.4 is more than 2 years old and is not really maintained
anymore. But yes it's supposed to support STARTTLS. This idle thing is
not really a problem, it's quite impossible to reproduce it. But that's
clearly not the problem Peter is describing.

I'll try to do some tests with 0.11.4 + jabber.org this evening.

Yup, this clearly is not the problem he is having, but I thought it be
worth mentioning so he is warned, as this bug is really nasty and hit
me several times.

Peter, if somehow possible, use a newer version. For example, 0.11.4
also does not verify certificates on STARTTLS, because it only uses
Python's SSL sockets, newer versions use PyOpenSSL which does support
verifying the certificate.

Peter doesn't use Gajim, it's not for him but fr jabber.org users. And
it seems hard for him to track all gajim users on this server!

Each user have to take care of that. But this still doesn't solve the
connection issue.

If you have time to test and debug what the problem is, that would be
usefull.

For the moment I cannot test, the server doesn't reply, or reply so
slowly that I cannot do any test

I'll re-try later

The jabber.org service is quite stable now, so I think it's safe to test.

Thanks!

I just tried, and no I don't see any connection problem. But I cannot do
a lot of tests because I don't have an account on jabber.org server.
register.jabber.org is disabled for the moment, and In Band Registration
reply with a strange error:

SENT:
<iq xmlns="jabber:client" to="jabber.org" type="get" id="1"><query
xmlns="jabber:iq:register" /></iq>
RECV:
<stream:error><bad-namespace-prefix
xmlns='urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-streams'/></stream:error></stream:stream>

But connection and TLS handshake works, even in 0.11.4 release.

Thanks, I can connect to this account with 0.11.5 without any problem.
Peter, next time someone report a problem, could you ask him to come in
gajim's room, or to open a ticket with the logs attached (gajim -v to
get them)

Thanks
